Best Neighborhoods in Miami for Families

Pinecrest

With its beautiful tree-lined streets this Miami suburb is a go-to destination for families and retirees, a friendly community with top-rated schools. Pinecrest is unique in that you get large homes with good-sized yards and luxurious pools for the summer months. Pinecrest is an amazing place to settle down with your family!

Things to do:
  • Pinecrest Gardens: Perfect for a day of family entertainment. Walk through botanical gardens, play on splash pads and catch amazing art shows while enjoying the perfect weather.
  • Matheson Hammock Park: An oasis in the middle of the city for those looking to enjoy some fresh air. Amenities include nature trails, a marina, a beach, covered picnic areas, and even a boat launch.
  • The Original Crab House: Of course try the crab but it’s not limited to just that as there are also great other fish, scallops, shrimp, and other sea fares.

Coral Gables

One of Miami’s most sought-after neighborhoods Coral Gables boasts some of Miami’s best private schools.  The Gables are very desirable for young families. Coral Gables has great safety scores which go perfectly with its walkability. Coral Gables offers several gated and private communities. Many of these communities are located on waterfront lots with lots of places for children to play.

Things to do
  • Venetian Pool: One of the most famous pools in Florida. The Venetian is the largest freshwater pool in the United States.  Refilled daily from an underground aquifer. Soak underneath artificial waterfalls, swim through the grottoes, or lounge poolside.
  • Coral Gables Trolley: Cruise through Coral Gables on one of the free vintage trolleys. Over two dozen stops effortlessly keep you busy for the day with lots of boutique shops, art galleries, and craft beers to try.
  • Brunch at the Biltmore: Join the late-risers for brunch at the Biltmore. Your plate will be Instagram-worthy with ceviche, fish roe, squid ink Tagliolini, and Pork Osso Bucco. Classics, like crispy bacon or scrambled eggs, are also available. And, of course, bottomless mimosas, bloody marys, and bellinis.

Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove is Miami’s oldest neighborhood and maybe the best to raise children. The almost jungle-Esque streets are safe and secure for walking. The Grove offers an array of child-friendly parks and some of Miami Dade’s best private schools. Many say they love living in the neighborhood for its Bohemian feel and high-end lifestyle.

Things to do:

  • Vizcaya Museum & Gardens: The museum is famous for its wildly extravagant architecture, hundreds of European antiques, and works of art dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
  • The Kampong: Nine-acre botanical garden and is one of only 5 national botanical gardens.  Be sure to check out the 80-year-old 50-ton baobab tree from Tanzania.
  • Vicky’s house:  1980s-themed milkshake bar serving indulgent, pop-culture-inspired creations and ice-cream floats, plus beer and wine.
Weston

Can’t go wrong being on CNN Money’s “Best Places to Live in America” and in Family Circle’s “Ten Best Places for Families.” Weston has 14 family-friendly parks, 46 miles of marked bike lanes for family bike rides, and lots of shopping and dining options.

Things to do:

  • Young at an art museum: Founded more than three decades ago with the idea that art and creativity should be fundamental to every child’s development. The museum includes interactive exhibits and employee-led programs that touch on the performing arts, sculpture, painting, and lots more.
